Yilan Zhao
Yilan Zhao was born in Shaoshan Village, Southern China in 1995. Being raised in such a provincial and traditional Chinese village and under the influence of her father, who is an English teacher and amateur violin player, Zhao yearned to discover Western culture. At the age of seven, she was interested in piano. But until the age of ten, Zhao’s piano lessons were mainly given by vocal teachers because of the lack of piano teachers in her province. After receiving six years of professional music training at the Pre-College of Wuhan Conservatory, in 2011 she moved to New York and started working with Mr. Choong Mo Kang at The Juilliard Pre-College Division. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Music Degree with Mr. Hung-Kuan Chen at The Juilliard School.
