Ji Soo Choi
The 2013 Grand prizewinner of the Canadian Music Competition in the 19 to 30 year old category at the age of 18, Ji Soo Choi started practicing violin when she was three years old in South Korea, under the tutelage of You Jung Kim and Kwang Gu Kim. She also studied with Barry Shiffman at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Her debuts include the HYUP Orchestra, the Academy Chamber Orchestra at the Taylor Academy, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique de Sherbrooke and the Oakville Chamber Orchestra.
Ji Soo won first place in the Han Kook Il Bo Music Competition. She first appeared with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at the Roy Thomson Hall, in 2011, in the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition. Ji Soo has additionally performed in master classes conducted by James Ehnes, Maxim Vangrov, Victor Danchenko, Soo Vin Kim, Aaron Rosand, and Joel Smirnoff. In 2013, she was honoured to be featured in the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation blog “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians under 30”. Also She was selected as one of the young musicians to perform at the Music Monday series hosted by the CBC Radio 2. In addition, she was chosen to receive the 2015 Musical mentoring Award by the Gold Coast Chamber Players in Lafeyette, San Francisco. She performed solo recitals and collaborated with several world-known artists. Ji Soo is currently pursuing her Bachelor degree at the Juilliard School of Music in the studio of Ida Kavafian.
